CLERMONT
IN THE
 21ST CENTURY

March 2006

Dear Friends of Clermont

The Community Development committee of the Clermont City Council, more than two years ago, began a serious assessment of where the city stood as a community and in what direction could the city grow to maintain and expand it’s viability for the future.   After gathering input from citizens and government leaders several projects were identified   At a town meeting held in the Opera House in April of 2005, informal voting placed peak citizen interest in three projects  - renovation of the Opera House and the River Park and enhancement of the downtown Clermont business district with new decorative sidewalks and lighting.   These projects are described in more depth in the enclosed brochures.

The total cost of these projects is estimated at $650,000; very ambitious for the city but also very exciting!  To help with the cost, an application was submitted to the state of Iowa for a CAT grant (Community Attraction and Tourism.)  All indications are that the Vision Iowa Board is viewing our application quite favorably.  However, we are being asked to raise private donations as a condition for an award to be made.

This is an amazing opportunity for the City of Clermont.  To take hold of the future and make it happen.  Wouldn’t you like to be a part of the energy that moves this project forward?  If Clermont is a place that holds special memories, a special place you enjoy, a special place you would like to see revived, and energized, please help us seize this opportunity.  Your donation and/or pledge of financial support will help us secure state funding and insure that this special city continues proudly into the future.  Your donation can be sent to the City of Clermont, P.O. Box 6, Clermont, IA 52135.  And you can specify what portion of the project you wish to support; renovation of the Opera House, enhancement of the business district with decorative sidewalks and lighting, or renovation of the River Park.

The City of Clermont, today, stands at a crossroads looking at the hope and promise of a reinvigorated future.  There are businesses interested in Clermont as a place of future enterprise who are waiting to see if Clermont believes in itself.

Please help us, with your donation, show them and the Vision Iowa Board that we do believe in Clermont.

Sincerely,

The Community Attraction and Tourism Grant Committee
