BACK READS: THE IDEAL SCHOOL. When teaching country
school in 1854 William Larrabee dreamed of an "Ideal School." In
1886, Gov. Larrabee defined his dream of an "Ideal School" in an
address to the Iowa State Teachers Association. In 1912 he
fulfilled that dream by presenting the children of the City of
Clermont with such a school. Built of brick, marble, stone,
concrete and steel, it is completely fireproof. Classes were
held from Jan 1913 to Nov 1990. It currently houses the
Public Library, City Offices, and other businesses. In honor of
Iowa's Sesquicentennial 1846-1996.
